1244. ALFRED "The Great"³⁷ (ETHELWULF ("Noble Wolf")³⁸, EGBERT³⁹, EAHLMUND⁴⁰, EAFA⁴¹, EOPPA⁴², INGILD⁴³, CENRED⁴⁴, CEOWALD⁴⁵, CUTHA⁴⁶, CUTHWINE⁴⁷, (Ceolin)⁴⁸ CAEELIN, CYNRIC⁴⁹ , CERDIC⁵⁰)⁽⁹⁵⁶⁾ was born in Wantage, Oxfordshire (previously Berkshire) 847. His occupation of London in 886 established the first true political union of England, whose existance owed a perverse debt to the pressure of standing against the Danelaw constructed from the remains of eastern Mercia and East Anglia. ALFRED died 26 OCT 899. ⁽⁹⁵⁷⁾ RESEARCH NOTES: poss. suffered from porphyria. His body was interred in Winchester.

He married Ealhswith 868. Ealhswith⁽⁹⁵⁸⁾ was the daughter of Aethelred MUCIL of the Gaini and Eadburgh. Ealhswith died ABT 915(04). King of England 871-899.

ALFRED "The Great" and Ealhswith had the following children:

+ 1245 i. Ethelfleda³⁶ d. at Tamworth 12 JUN 918.

+ 1246 ii. Elfthryth.

+ 1183 iii. EDWARD I "The Elder" was born 875.
