A closer look at Eilean Donan castle from the other side. The memorial commemorates MacRaes, who held Eilean Donan for many years for their patrons, the powerful Mackenzies, Earls of Seaforth. Destroyed by English bombardment during one of the Jacobite uprisings (in 1719), the castle was restored in this century by a descendant of the MacRaes.
