1310. ETHELWULF ("Noble Wolf")38 (EGBERT39, EAHLMUND40, EAFA41, EOPPA42, INGILD43, CENRED44, CEOWALD45, CUTHA46, CUTHWINE47, (Ceolin)48 CAEELIN, CYNRIC49 , CERDIC50)(1008) birth date unknown. ETHELWULF died 13 JAN 858. His body was interred in Steyning, Sussex (moved to Winchester).

He married twice. He married Osburgh (Osburga) 1 OCT 856. Osburgh was the daughter of Oslac "The Thane" HAMPSHIRE and unknown. Osburgh died about 854. He married Judith of France in Verberie-sur-Oise, 1 OCT 856. Judith was born 846. Judith(1009) was the daughter of CHARLES "The Bald" (King of the West Franks) and Ermentrude of Orleans. King of England 839-855; abdicated in 855 on his return from abroad in favor of Ethelbald in order to prevent a civil war.

ETHELWULF ("Noble Wolf") and Osburgh (Osburga) had the following children:

child 4006 i. ATHELSTAN(1014). ATHELSTAN was given the provinces of Kent, Surrey, Essex and Sussex as an appanage by his father, ETHELWULF. Later these reverted back to Ethelwulf when he (Ethelwulf) resigned Wessex to Ethelbald. On Ethelwulf's death these four provinces passed to Ethelbert.

child 1311 ii. ETHELBALD37 (1010). ETHELBALD died 860. His body was interred in Sherborne Abbey. He married Judith of France after 858, when she became the young widow of ETHELBALD's father, ETHELWULF. Judith was born 846. Judith(1011) was the daughter of CHARLES "The Bald" and Ermentrude of Orleans. King of England 858-860.

child + 1244 iii. ALFRED "The Great" was born 847.

child 1312 iv. Aethelswith. She married Burgred, the King of Mercia, about 853.

child 1313 v. ETHELRED I(1012). ETHELRED died just after the middle of APR 871.(1013) RESEARCH NOTES: died of battle injuries. His body was interred in Wimborne Minster, Dorset. 3rd son; King of England 866-871. His son, Ethelwold, contended with Edward "The Elder" for the throne of Wessex. After fleeing Edward, Ethelwold returned with an army of Danes, but fell in battle with them in 902.

child 1314 vi. ETHELBERT(1014). ETHELBERT died 865. His body was interred in Sherborne Abbey. King of England 860-866

child 1315 vii. Judith. She married Ethico of ALTORF & RAVENSBURG. Ethico was the son of Guelph (Welf) I of Bavaria and Edith (Hedwig) of SAXONY. Ethico died 870.
