EDWARD II²⁴ PLANTAGENET (EDWARD I "Longshanks"²⁵, HENRY III²⁶, JOHN "Lackland"²⁷, HENRY II²⁸, Geoffrey V²⁹ PLANTAGENET of ANJOU, FULK V "The Young"³⁰ of ANJOU, Fulk IV "Rechin"³¹, Aubri-Geoffrey³² of the GATINAIS, Geoffrey III³³)⁽²²⁸⁾ was born in Caernarvon Castle 25 APR 1284. EDWARD died SEP 1327 in Berkeley Castle, at 43 years of age.⁽²²⁹⁾ RESEARCH NOTES: According to most accounts, orders were given that Edward II must be killed, but not in any way that should leave visible marks on his body. Consequently he was put to death by having a red-hot poker thrust into his internal organs. His body was interred in Gloucester Cathedral.

He married Isabella "The Fair" of France in Boulogne, 25 JAN 1308. Isabella was born in Paris(?) 1295. Isabella⁽²³⁰⁾ was the daughter of PHILIP IV of France and Jeanne I. Isabella died 22 AUG 1358 in Castle Rising, Norfolk, at 63 years of age. Her body was interred in Grey Friars Church, London. King of England 1307-1327

Born Edward of Caernarfon; made 1st Prince of Wales at Lincoln in 1301 by Edward I in order to give the disaffected Welsh (whom Edward I had finally brought to heel in his conquest of 1282-83) an English sovereign whose heraldic title appeared to fulfill the dream of Llywelyn of a united Welsh nation-state.

The legend was told (beginning in 1509) of how Edward I, after having promised the conquered Welsh that they would have a prince who spoke no English, raised up at Caernarfon his newborn son Edward and said, "Here is the Prince I have promised you."

Edward II was deposed 20 JAN 1327 by his wife, Queen Isabella, with the assistance of the nobles of the realm. Agreed to abdicate in favor of his son, Edward III.

EDWARD II PLANTAGENET and Isabella "The Fair" of France had the following children:

343 ii. John PLANTAGENET, Earl of CORNWALL was born in Eltham Palace, Kent about 15 AUG 1316. John died 13 SEP 1336 in Perth, at 20 years of age.

344 iii. Eleanor PLANTAGENET was born in Woodstock 18 JUN 1318. Eleanor died 22 APR 1355 in Deventer, at 36 years of age. She married Reginald II, Duke of Gueldres, in Nijmegen, MAY 1332.

345 iv. Joan PLANTAGENET was born in Tower of London 5 JUL 1321. Joan died 7 SEP 1362 in Hertford, at 41 years of age.
