EDGAR "The Peaceful"34 (EDMUND I "The Magnificent"35, EDWARD I "The Elder"36, ALFRED "The Great"37, ETHELWULF ("Noble Wolf")38, EGBERT39, EAHLMUND40, EAFA41, EOPPA42, INGILD43, CENRED44, CEOWALD45, CUTHA46, CUTHWINE47, (Ceolin)48 CAEELIN, CYNRIC49 , CERDIC50)(752) was born about 943. Worked with St. Dunstan to further Dunstan's ecclesiastical works in England. In 973, several kings (including KENNETH, King of Scots) acknowledged at Chester the supremacy of EDGAR in Britain. EDGAR later assigned Lothian to KENNETH, an act that would determine the future relationship between Scotland and England. EDGAR died 8 JUL 975 at 32 years of age. His body was interred in Glastonbury Abbey. King of England 959-975.
He married twice. He married ELFRIDA (Aelfthryth) of DEVON 965(64). ELFRIDA was born 945. ELFRIDA(753) was the daughter of Ordgar of DEVON and unknown. ELFRIDA died 1000. He married Ethelfleda 961. Ethelfleda died about 962.

was born about 962. EDWARD died 18 MAR 979 in Corfe Castle, Dorset, at 16 years of age.
(755) RESEARCH NOTES: Although later chroniclers concluded that EDWARD was murdered on the
orders of his stepmother, Queen Elfrida, Sir Frank Stenton (Anglo-Saxon England, p. 373) notes that EDWARD was stabbed to death by
retainers of his brother, ETHELRED, the son of Elfrida.
His body was interred 980 in Shaftsbury, Dorset. An archaeological dig in 1931 at Shaftsbury Abbey unearthed bones believed to
be those of Edward. A dispute over re-burial led to the remains being deposited in the Midland Bank in Croydon, where they remain.
